Nature morte: aubergines, was one of 13 paintings Max Meirowsky brought with him when he left Germany via Holland, and settled in Geneva, on 5 September 1939, where he passed away on 1 December 1949. Meirowsky’s ownership of the painting is also stated in AStEGB, Invoice from Anstalt für Kunsthandel, Vaduz [Wildenstein & Co.], made out to Emil Bührle on 24 October 1953; Letter from Daniel Wildenstein, New York, to Emil Bührle, 9 November 1953, enclosing an additional pedigree (now lost) of the painting.
